It’s 3pm, you’ve had a long day at work or school and your energy levels are low. It’s not the end of the world, but you could probably do with an extra injection of vitality. Lucky for you, there are numerous ways to increase your energy levels quickly and easily.
Hungry? Eat a snack which is high in protein - like nuts or cheese - to boost serotonin levels in the brain which can help raise your mood and make it easier to deal with stressors. Getting enough sleep? If not, try taking a nap when feeling tired which can help get rid of those groggy feeling plus have been shown to boost productivity by as much as 16%.
Watch your posture. It’s been shown that sitting with a good posture can stimulate the brain, due to increased blood flow. Some studies have even found that poor posture can actually reduce productivity.
Stick to a routine which will promote good sleep patterns and help improve your mood so you’re more likely to deal with problems and stresses constructively rather than getting angry or irritated about them.
Cut down on caffeine - if in doubt eliminate it from your diet for a couple of weeks then reintroduce it but in much smaller amounts and see how you feel as you have it each day. There are clearly benefits but if having less reduces the negative effects then it might be worth cutting back.
Take a walk - there’s recent evidence to suggest that walking for even one half an hour can be enough to relieve stress and boost energy levels.
