Hey there, fellow Etsy enthusiasts! You know me, I'm basically Etsy's number one fan... I mean, HUGE. GINORMOUS!

Just this week, I cleared my calendar, cozied up with my favourite blanket and hot chocolate, all prepped to indulge in the Etsy Up 2023 conference.

BUT...

Would you believe it? I'm writing this blog post just 22 minutes in! How come? Well, I was hoping for a lively, interactive, and less scripted conference—a bit more human touch, you know? After all, we're Etsy lovers, not just faceless sellers.

Let's be fair though—it's no small task to orchestrate an event like this. Lights, camera, all those people in one place... not exactly a walk in the park. But hey, it's possible!

But I digress. I'm here to share with you some intriguing nuggets from the conference that I'm itching to delve into over the next few weeks.

 

Pearl of Wisdom 1:

 

SEO—now there's a trio of letters that might seem like a labyrinth. But, with a little decoding, it becomes as easy as ABC! During the conference, Etsy's very own Head of Google shared an insight that made everyone sit up a bit straighter—all our beloved Etsy shops are under Google's watchful eye, getting crawled, ranked, and indexed. However, plot twist—Google's search agenda isn't quite in sync with Etsy's query matching and search ranking algorithm. Intriguing, right?

And here's something that really caught my attention—yes, it's official, going on vacation mode with your Etsy shop can leave a dent in your rankings. A bummer, I know. We all deserve a little downtime, right?

But, fear not, my fellow Etsy comrades! I've been working on a sneaky little hack that could potentially save us from this pickle. I can't spill the beans just yet, but I promise you're going to want to stay tuned for a future post where I'll unwrap this strategy.

 

Aha Moment 2:

 

Did you know engagement rates on Google can carry more weight than conversion rates on the Etsy algorithm? So, if someone quickly views and then leaves your listing, Google is not impressed. Similarly, if someone admires your Etsy listing but doesn't buy, the Etsy algorithm gives you a thumbs down. We'll break this down further in an upcoming post, so watch this space!

It's time to make a splash on Pinterest! Honestly, I've been guilty of treating it as my go-to for Halloween décor inspo and kids' party ideas. But here's the twist—lots of people are actually making purchases after spotting products on Pinterest! So, buckle up for an enlightening journey into the world of Pinterest.

 

What else?

 

The conference was peppered with talk of trending products, themes, colours, seasons—you know the drill. I was particularly smitten by the Etsy Sellers they showcased, so I encourage you to check out the YouTube replay for some serious inspiration when you have a moment.

Most importantly though, the conference echoed one thing loud and clear—folks like us need more support. We're all juggling a million things in our daily lives.
